Here is something different from the condensed
précis of famous works that form the basis of so much of English literature's
teaching. You do not need to have an extensive prior knowledge of the subject,
but you should enjoy reading - because the reading you will do forms the backbone
of the course.
Illustrated with examples from the works being
discussed, the course follows the mainstream of English literature from Chaucer
to our own times. Suggested readings are provided for each module, and the essay
topics are designed to help you enlarge your understanding of the pieces concerned.
This course will provide a great deal of pleasure
for those who like reading, thinking and writing.
