Distance Learning
Distance learning is the ideal solution
for anyone wanting to train as a news journalist, features
writer, freelance writer or creative writer without having
to juggle an existing career or other commitments. Simply
by studying at home and corresponding regularly with your
tutor you can set yourself on the path to knowledge and success
- all while working at your own pace.

Distance learning courses
consist of four major parts:
Lesson modules: Information supplied
by us for you to study, which include assignments.
Assignments: Written work and projects
to be completed and sent in after studying each module.
Your tutor: Upon enrolment you will
be allocated a personal tutor who will be responsible for
helping you through all elements of the course. Every tutor
is a skilled teacher and successful practitioner of the speciality
that they teach. The relationship you establish with your
tutor and the feedback you will receive are the most valuable
parts of the course.
Returned assignments and comments:
Your tutor comprehensively reviews your assignments, and returns
them to you. With their return you will receive the answers
to any queries you have raised and any additional suggestions
your tutor feels would be helpful.
Additional Facilities
We also offer three additional facilities
not available from other distance learning providers:
Online lectures: Regular lectures
are given online, so that students with access to the internet
can participate in group discussions and receive additional
tuition. Lectures are text-based, with all participation taking
place in real time. Copies of the lecture can be downloaded
upon completion and kept for reference. Look at the lecture-list.
Lectures in London: Throughout the
academic year we hold general journalism lectures for our
postgraduate students. Some of these lectures are available
to distance learning students who must reserve places if they
wish to attend. There is no charge - but booking is essential.
Student Bulletin Board: For intra-student
discussions, password protected, to ensure access is only
available to our students.

Your Choices
We also offer students a choice in the
method of delivery of lesson modules and assignments.
Distance learning by post (UK and
Overseas) (Standard price structure)
All lesson modules, assignments and returned work are dispatched
by first class mail within the UK or by airmail to overseas
students. UK students are required to supply SAEs for the
return of their work.
Distance learning by email (Reduced
price structure because of postal savings)
All lesson modules, assignments and returned work are delivered
electronically. Students download modules from their own secure
page in the student section of the website, and send their
completed work by email to the school. Returned work is sent
to the student either as simple email, or as an Adobe .pdf
file email attachment (which allows your tutor to make handwritten
corrections to your manuscripts).
At the end of your course a complete
set of current lesson modules is sent to you as a permanent
reference set.
